Bayer Leverkusen was founded on July 1, 1904. Since 1958, it has played its home games in the BayArena which seats 30 210 spectators. The club won the UEFA Cup in 1988 and in 1993 it took over the DFB Cup. At the start of last season, the German Super Cup was won.
After winning the national championship the previous season, Bayer Leverkusen finished second last season. This means they will also be competing in the Champions League next season. Manager Xabi Alonso has left the club. His successor is Erik Ten Hag.
