Newcastle United was founded in 1881 as Stanley football club. In 1882, the name was changed to Newcastle East End, and eventually in 1892 the club got the name it still bears: Newcastle United.

The 2025/2026 season was a disappointing one under manager Eddie Howe. Newcastle United finished in just twelfth place. In the Champions League, they were eliminated in the Round of 16 by FC Barcelona.
